103 Inch Plasma TV

July 26th, 2007 · 4 Comments

Now I have a 42″ Panasonic plasma and I have to say I love it. It’s big enough that I can see Harry Potter’s scar and it was inexpensive enough that I could actually afford it. But what’s the price going to be on the new 1080p Panasonic 103″ plasma? The LG 71″ sells for a cool $28,000 so we can only assume the Panasonic 103″ will be significantly more.

Perhaps the more important question is: who needs a 103″ TV? Are you sitting a block away? I mean at that size we’re talking theater. Maybe people should buy a smaller TV and move the couch closer. But if you pick one of these bad boys up let me know. I’m sure none of us would pass up the opportunity to check out a TV where the picture in picture is larger than our current bigscreen.

Oh and of course check out our post on how to choose LCD vs. Plasma.

From a technology point of view it’s interesting to see that a TV this size has been created but I can’t see it being used at homes. Maybe industrial uses / corporate presentations might be better for this. Many shops are incorporating virual presentations on their production floors to inform employees on production rates, machine failures, etc. Such a size would make sense then but not at home…

I agree with you 100%. Pragmatically speaking it doesn’t make sense to spend the money when a $1000 projector will get you your 103″ of pleasure. But who dreams of being practical? This plasma is over the top and, let’s face it, awesome!
