At this moment I have about 40 items flagged in Microsoft Outlook For Follow Up and if you use Outlook then chances are good that your list of items to follow up on is quite large as well. How do you know which ones need to be followed up on immediately and which can wait? The method I use is to schedule my emails using the calendar. I’ll first mark an item as requiring follow-up then I’ll drag it over to my schedule and set a time and date on it for when I need to start attending to that item. The nice thing about dragging the email to your calendar is that it includes the entire email correspondence in the notes of the calendar event so you don’t need to search your inbox for that to-do item. This using in conjunction with #3 in this list of Rules to Better Email will help you and those around you be more productive.
